International Abba Magazine #7

The 7th issue of the International Abba a Magazine was published during June 1982 and was all about Frida's solo album. The bulk of the magazine was taken up with a telephone interview with Frida who was in the studio working on "Something's Going On" during which she mentioned -

• She had listened to over 500 tracks before choosing the tracks for the album
• Her favourite track on "The Visitors" was the title track
• Phil Collins arranged for Earth, Wind and Fire to play on her album
• In the video for "Head Over Heels" she bumps into Lasse Hallstrom
• Bjorn and Benny were planning to work on a "concept" album

Collection Review - A-Teens CD Singles

Today I thought I would look back at two A-Teens CD singles ("Mamma Mia" and "Super Trouper") from my collection.

"Mamma Mia" was the group's first single from their album "The Abba Generation" and was released in May 1999. The single was a huge hit in Sweden (number 1 for eight weeks) and performed well in other countries as shown below ;

• Number 1 - Sweden, Argentina, Chile
• Number 3 - Norway, Ukraine
• Number 9 - Netherlands, Switzerland
• Number 10 - Germany
• Number 12 - Mexico, UK
• Number 13 - New Zealand
• Number 14 - Austria, Finland

The group's second single "Super Trouper" was released in November 1999 and reached number 2 in Sweden, 4 in Germany and number 21 in the UK. My favourite track from the CD single is the medley which at just under seven and a half minutes long is one to recommend.

Abba Date - 25th September 1977

On the 25th September 1977 Abba filmed the video for their latest single "The Name Of The Game" - the video featured the group in Bjorn and Agnetha's summer cottage.

Collection Update - Austrian "Fernando" Single

The latest Abba 7" single to be added to my collection is an Austrian release of "Fernando" (b-side "Topical Loveland") which was released in Austria in March 1976.

The single first entered the Austrian charts on the 15th March 1976 where it took only 4 weeks to reach number 1 where it stayed for an amazing 14 weeks. In total the single spent 40 weeks in the charts (including a further three weeks at number 2 after moving off the top spot) eventually being certified 25 x Gold.

Unsurprisingly "Fernando" was the biggest selling single in Austria in 1976 however Abba had 7 records in the 1979 year end chart -

• Fernando (1)
• Dancing Queen (3)
• Money, Money, Money (7)
• Rock Me (14)
• S.O.S (16)
• Mamma Mia (28)
• Ring Ring (49)

The number in brackets the postion in the year end chart.
