International Abba Magazine #23

Issue 23 of the International Abba Magazine was published in October 1983 and included a great picture of Agnetha on the front cover. The magazine started with the following updates -

  • Epic announced an album of new Abba material due in November 1983 (which sadly turned out to be wishful thinking !)
  • The musical that Bjorn and Benny were working on with Tim Rice had Been given a working title of "Chess"
  • Adam Ant had been recording with Abba's house band at the Polar Studios
  • A rare remix of "The Visitors" was a big hit in gay clubs in New York

The first few pages of the magazine covered the story of the "Abbacadabra" musical in France including news of the single "Belle" and that negotiations were under way to bring the musical to London.

This issue also included a competition to win a signed copy of Agnetha's single "The Heat Is On" by answering the question what was Agnetha's first solo single ?

A chart of the top 70 Abba songs as voted for by readers of the magazine was also included in this issue - the higher entries of the chart was dominated by the group's most recent singles. Here are the first 10 from the list..

  1. The Winner Takes It All
  2. The Day Before You Came
  3. Under Attack
  4. Super Trouper
  5. One Of Us
  6. Fernando
  7. Take A Chance On Me
  8. Dancing Queen
  9. Eagle
  10. Thank You For The Music

One of my favourites "If It Wasn't For a The Nights" was at number 62 ; the final choice at number 70 in the chart was "Suzy Hang Around".
